A 1, 2 or 3-day plan
Stop after day 1, 2 or 3, depending on how long you have.
Day 1: Ratnagiri city
Thibaw Palace, Ratnadurg fort and the Bhagwati temple, Lokmanya Tilak's birthplace, and sunset at Bhatye beach.
Day 2: Ganpatipule and Jaigad
Aare-Ware viewpoint on the way, morning darshan at Ganpatipule, then the Jai Vinayak temple and Jaigad fort.
Day 3: pick one
Marleshwar for hills and the waterfall (best July to October), the Guhagar coast by ferry, or Kunkeshwar and Devgad to the south.
Good picks with family
Ganpatipule
A short drive, the temple and a beach in one stop. Keep children out of the sea in the monsoon.
Ratnagiri city sights
Thibaw Palace and Ratnadurg fort are close together, with little driving between them.
Malvan and Tarkarli
Best for older children: the boat to Sindhudurg fort, and snorkelling from about October to May.
Marleshwar, with care
The temple is up a flight of steps, which can be hard for elders. The waterfall is at its best after the rains.
Inside Ratnagiri city
Thibaw Palace, Ratnadurg fort with the Bhagwati temple, Lokmanya Tilak's birthplace, and Bhatye and Mandvi beaches are all within a short drive. See the Ratnagiri sightseeing day plan for the best order.
Prefer not to plan it yourself? Book day trips from Ratnagiri by car with a local driver who knows the order and timings.
Monsoon notes (June to September)
Waterfalls and green hills are at their best, but the sea is rough: avoid swimming anywhere on this coast. Boats to Sindhudurg fort and water sports at Malvan and Tarkarli stop for the season, and some ferries pause in bad weather.
